    Writing workshop for young writers
    Find out exactly what book contest judges are looking for, and you may be one of the newest authors at Schlow Library. Diane Oyler, an experienced writing teacher and a judge of Schlow Library Write and Illustrate Your Own Book Contest, will show you ways to improve your writing skills, and discuss simple mistakes to avoid. If you've already started your book, bring it for a brief evaluation.

    Mary Rohrer-Dann fell in love with words in the 4th grade and has been writing ever since. She's been published in many literary magazines and has a book of poetry in publication by Eiderdown Press. She also teaches at Penn State and will share with us her writing process from inspiration to first draft to revision upon revision upon revision.

  • Town & Gown Short Story Contest

    Town & Gown is now accepting unpublished short stories (2,000 words or less) to be considered for its February 2009 Fiction Issue. You can enter in one of four categories: Drama/Suspense, Romance with a Twist, Comedy, or One Fine Day in Happy Valley. You may enter one story per category. Stories can be emailed to dpenc@barashgroup.com, mailed to Fiction Contest, c/o Barash Publications, 403 S. Allen St., State College, PA 16801 or dropped off at Schlow Library. Stories must be received by October 24, 2008.
