Alternative category: Jarod Rosello, Penn State MFA student, for "In the Words of Dashiell Hammett,"

a collection of cartoons based on lines of dialogue from Hammett's short stories.

Best Parody: Daniel Story, Penn State MFA student, for "The Lady in the White Suit"

In honor of our 2010 Centre County Reads pick, The Maltese Falcon, we're hoping you'll jump on this contest like a starving mouse on a piece of the best cheddar. Write your best Hammett-style piece (hard boiled detective writing) and submit it to hammettwriting@gmail.com or any of the libraries in Centre County along with a cover letter, your name, address, contact information and a brief biography.

Karen Dabney, the new coordinator for the NVWN criique groups, will be hosting an informal session for new critique groups. Stop by and sign up for a group, offer to organize a new group, or talk with NVWN members about how best to make a critique group run smoothly.
